Pantera have posted a teaser pointing towards New Orleans, promising only that “something heavy is coming.”
The clip went up on Friday, September 4. The band have given no indication of what it refers to, and no date, venue or event has been announced.
Pantera were formed in Arlington, Texas in 1981 by brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, with Rex Brown joining the following year. The New Orleans link comes through vocalist Philip Anselmo, who was born in the city in 1968 and joined the band in 1986.
Anselmo remains based in Louisiana, where he runs Housecore Records and has built much of his work outside Pantera, including Down, Superjoint and Philip H. Anselmo And The Illegals.
The teaser lands at the end of a year the band have spent almost entirely outside the United States.
Pantera opened 2026 supporting Metallica across Europe, playing Frankfurt, Budapest, Dublin and London, before headline dates in July with Trivium, Cavalera and Bodysnatcher opening. They appeared at Release Athens on July 9 and played Turkey for the first time on July 12 at the Ataköy Marina Arena in Istanbul.
Their only announced American appearance of 2026 is Louder Than Life in Louisville on September 17, where they share the opening night with Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Alice Cooper and Anthrax.
Whatever is planned for New Orleans would either add to that or fall outside this year.
The band reunited in 2022 with Anselmo and Brown alongside Zakk Wylde on guitar and Charlie Benante on drums, eighteen years after the death of Dimebag Darrell in 2004 and four years after Vinnie Paul died in 2018. The current run has been framed throughout as a celebration of the two brothers’ work rather than a conventional reunion.
Further details on the New Orleans plans are expected from the band.
