The legacy of Ozzy Osbourne, the irreplaceable Black Sabbath frontman who passed away on July 22 at 76, will be further cemented with the upcoming release of a highly anticipated documentary titled “No Escape From Now“. Despite the profound loss, this feature-length film, which intimately chronicles Ozzy‘s recent health struggles, is slated to debut this fall on Paramount+, serving as a poignant and personal tribute to the late metal icon.
The documentary offers an unfiltered look into the challenging period following Ozzy‘s 2019 fall, an event that significantly impacted his mobility and overall well-being. “No Escape From Now“ promises to capture his unwavering resilience, trademark humor, and enduring impact through a collection of candid interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and deeply personal moments.
Filming for the project, helmed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Tania Alexander (known for her work on “Gogglebox“), began in 2022 during the creation of Ozzy‘s 13th studio album, Patient Number 9. Production continued up to what would become his final public performance: Black Sabbath’s farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, mere weeks before his death.
In a joint statement provided to Rolling Stone, Tania Alexander and co-producer Phil Alexander expressed their sorrow: “We are truly heartbroken to hear the news of Ozzy‘s passing. Filming with him, Sharon, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack for the last three and a half years will always be a cherished and remarkable experience — largely because we got to regularly witness Ozzy‘s indomitable spirit, his mischievous, irresistible grin and his masterful display of unique one-liners. We will always love you, dear Ozz. And we send love and strength to Sharon and her family.”
The production of “No Escape From Now“ is a collaborative effort between Echo Velvet, the Osbourne family, and MTV Entertainment Studios. Executive producers overseeing the project include Bruce Gillmer and Amanda Culkowski for MTV, Phil Alexander for Echo Velvet, and Sharon Osbourne for Sharon Osbourne Management.
The documentary will feature new interviews with members of Ozzy’s immediate family: Sharon, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne. Additionally, a constellation of renowned friends and collaborators from the music world will appear, offering their perspectives on the legendary artist. Confirmed appearances include Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Zakk Wylde, Andrew Watt, and Billy Morrison.
