Following a long period of anticipation, the Norwegian melodic black metal project Old Man’s Child made its triumphant live debut in the United States at the Fire in the Mountains Festival on July 26. This historic performance, led by founding member Galder, marked a significant milestone for the band and was met with immense enthusiasm from fans.
The event, which ran from July 25-27, took place at the picturesque Red Eagle Campground, framed by towering pines and the dramatic landscapes of Glacier, Montana. It was within this stunning natural setting that Old Man’s Child, in their first U.S. appearance, delivered a powerful and memorable setlist that captivated the audience.
The setlist for the historic performance included the following tracks:
- “Towards Eternity”
- “King of the Dark Ages”
- “The Dream Ghost”
- “Soul Possessed”
- “Unholy Vivid Innocence”
- “Doommaker”
- “God of Impiety”
- “Born of the Flickering”
- “Demons of the Thorncastle”
- “Hominis Nocturna”
- “The Millennium King”
This live debut comes at a particularly exciting time for Old Man’s Child, as the band is currently working on new material. The upcoming release will be their first studio album since 2009’s Slaves of the World, further fueling the excitement among fans for what the future holds.
Galder had previously expressed his eagerness for the U.S. show, calling it a long-awaited career milestone. “Old Man’s Child is thrilled to announce its first-ever concert in the United States, set in the stunning surroundings of Fire in the Mountains. Join us for a memorable experience in the mountains—we look forward to seeing you there,” he stated prior to the festival.
The revival of Old Man’s Child directly follows Galder’s departure from Dimmu Borgir in August 2024. Galder had publicly stated his decision was the result of “years of careful reflection,” made in order to fully dedicate himself to his solo project, Old Man’s Child.
In his full statement regarding his exit from Dimmu Borgir, Galder explained: “Yesterday I played my last show with Dimmu Borgir. After almost 25 years of making music and playing with Dimmu Borgir I have decided to leave the band. I have been thinking about this for years and as many of you have been pointing out – it’s time for Old Man’s Child to get on stage again and finalizing new album. I with the best for the other members of the band moving forward. –G”
