Cleopatra Entertainment has officially set the North American theatrical premiere for “Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer“, the highly anticipated documentary chronicling the turbulent final years of the late Iron Maiden frontman, Paul Di’Anno.
After its initial U.K. theatrical run, which began on May 1 at Birmingham’s Mockingbird Cinema and continues through June 2 at the Light Cinema chain, the film will make its way to the United States. Following festival screenings at Sound Unseen in Minneapolis and the San Francisco Documentary Festival, the documentary will officially debut for North American public audiences on June 9, 2026.
The premiere event will take place at the Lumiere Music Hall Theater in Beverly Hills, California, and will feature a special Q&A session with director Wes Orshoski. This date also marks the official North American release for the film across digital VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray formats.
Directed by Wes Orshoski, known for his acclaimed work on the Motörhead study “Lemmy” and “The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead“, the documentary offers a deeply intimate look at the physical and emotional rollercoaster of Paul Di’Anno‘s final years.
The narrative follows two dedicated Iron Maiden fans who encountered the singer at his lowest point and launched a crowdfunding campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort ultimately allowed the wheelchair-bound Paul Di’Anno to relocate to Croatia for life-changing medical treatment. The film captures his dramatic turnaround, his reunion with his former bandmates, finding love, and his heroic return to the stage.
“For years there wasn’t much to capture,” Wes Orshoski explained regarding the filming process, which began in 2017. “Paul was waiting for surgeries that doctors in the U.K. would not greenlight. He was in an incredibly dark place. But once he got to Croatia, fans and doctors gave him the hope he was desperately searching for. It was beautiful to witness. I wanted to make a film that was unlike any rock doc you’ve ever seen. And in the end, I think we got there.”
The documentary is packed with appearances from heavy metal royalty, featuring interviews with James Hetfield of Metallica, Gene Simmons of Kiss, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, and members of Exodus, Slayer, Megadeth, Overkill, and Sepultura.
Born Paul Andrews in East London, Paul Di’Anno served as the gritty, punk-infused voice of Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981. He helped cement the foundation of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal across two legendary and foundational metal albums: the 1980 self-titled debut, Iron Maiden, and the 1981 follow-up, Killers. His departure in 1981 and subsequent replacement by Bruce Dickinson sparked a passionate fandom debate that continues to endure nearly 50 years later.
Following his time in Iron Maiden, the vocalist fronted acts like Battlezone and Killers. In his final years, he recorded with the Croatian project Paul Di’Anno’s Warhorse alongside guitarists Hrvoje Madiraca and Ante “Pupi” Pupačić. Despite severe health issues that confined him to a wheelchair, he remained fiercely dedicated to live performance, playing well over 100 shows since 2023.
His triumphant return to the stage included a historic May 2022 concert at the Bikers Beer Factory in Zagreb—his first full solo show in seven years, which was filmed specifically for the documentary. That same month, he reunited face-to-face with bassist and founder Steve Harris for the first time in three decades.
Paul Di’Anno passed away on October 21, 2024, at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66. Shortly before his passing, his vast solo and collaborative career was celebrated with the retrospective album, The Book Of The Beast. He was laid to rest the following month in East London, leaving behind a massive legacy that “Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer” now aims to preserve and celebrate for future generations.
