Nine Inch Nails have put out a limited merchandise collection marking 30 years since Quake, the game whose soundtrack and sound design Trent Reznor created.
The “Quake + NIN 30th Limited Edition Collection” is available now through the band’s official store.
The Ammo Box
The centrepiece is a physical version of a joke that has been sitting inside the game for three decades.
In Quake, ammunition for the nailgun and super nailgun comes in boxes stamped with the Nine Inch Nails logo, id Software’s nod to the band scoring the game. That box now exists as an object: a 3.75-inch cube with printed graphics and a removable lid, priced at $30.
A smaller version comes as a keychain at $20, measuring 3 centimetres cubed, with a button that triggers the “jump” sound effect Reznor made for the game in 1996. It runs on two replaceable LR44 cells.

What Reznor Actually Did On Quake
Quake was released on June 22, 1996 and reshaped first-person shooters and multiplayer gaming.
Reznor and Nine Inch Nails wrote the score, an ambient, largely beatless industrial soundtrack that gave the game much of its atmosphere — and handled the sound design. Reznor also supplied the voice of the player character.
The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2020.
