Nikki Sixx Reflects On The House Where Mötley Crüe Was Born As Band Marks 45 Years

As Mötley Crüe celebrate 45 years, Nikki Sixx shares a personal message about the band’s origins, early struggles, and creative freedom.

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, whose band is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2026, posted a statement to his Facebook page earlier yesterday (Saturday, January 17).

The statement reads:

“As time rolls on, you forget the little things—the small, throwaway moments that years later turn out to be the birth of something that changes you… and a lot of other people’s lives.”

“Back then, I was pretty much living in a dilapidated house just off Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. Falling apart. Barely hanging on.”

“Worth noting, though—it did have a waterbed and an old rotary Bakelite phone ,So yeah, we were doing just fine.”

“That was the house where I showed a 17-year-old Tommy Lee a pile of songs that would later end up on our debut album. It’s where we first met Mick Mars. It’s where we dreamed, jammed, argued, laughed, and tried to turn noise, attitude, and fun into something you could actually explain.”

“We rehearsed like madmen. Burned through a few singers before we finally met Vince Neil.”

“That house—four broke, ratty kids with nothing but ideas and nerve—was where the name Mötley Crüe was born. Along with about a million other stories that probably shouldn’t be told in polite company.”

“The bottom line is this: we all start somewhere. And most of the time, we have no clue what’s about to come out of those first moments.”

“In that house, Mötley Crüe was born 45 years ago. I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride as much as we have.”

“Proud to be part of this band. Thank you to Vince, Tommy, and Mick for decades of loud, dangerous, honest music. I still go back and look at those old lyrics and wonder how the hell I had the b*lls at that age to play and say what we said—and nobody ever questioned us.”

“Complete creative freedom.”

“Thank you.”

“And God bless the Children of the Beast.”

Earlier last year, Nikki has insisted that the band’s infamous “Final Tour” in 2015 was not a marketing gimmick, but a genuine attempt to close the book on their touring career.

In an interview with Portland’s KPTV Fox 12, Sixx reflected on the band’s decision to tear up their “cessation of touring agreement” and the unexpected cultural resurgence that brought them back to stadiums worldwide.

“We did in 2015 do a farewell tour. And we honestly thought that was it. We were done. Everything was cool,” Sixx admitted in the interview.

According to Sixx, the catalyst for their reunion was not boredom, but the explosive success of their 2019 Netflix biopic, “The Dirt.” The film introduced the band’s chaotic history to a new generation, creating a demand that promoters couldn’t ignore.

“The [Mötley Crüe] movie came out on Netflix, “The Dirt.” And I don’t know how many hundreds of millions of people saw that, and [it] put us in a place where they came to us and asked us if we wanted to do eight shows,” Sixx explained. “And we were, like, ‘We love to play for our fans, but we’ve kind of already wrapped it up,’ and blah, blah, blah. They said, ‘No. Eight stadiums.’ And we were, like, ‘Oh.'”

That initial offer ballooned into “The World Tour” alongside Def Leppard, which saw the bands play 138 stadium dates across the globe. “It was just exciting to be back out there again,” Sixx added.
