Get ready, Ghost fans! Papa V Perpetua and the newly decked-out Nameless Ghouls are dropping their next offering tomorrow night (April 10th). The track is called “Lachryma“, the second single to emerge from the multi-platinum occult rockers’ upcoming sixth studio album, Skeletá. And yes, a brand new music video is coming with it. You can watch the teaser down below.
The Ghost themselves teased the release with a cryptic message: “We wish to inform you that you’ve made your bed, and now you shall cry in it. ‘Lachryma‘ coming this Friday. Tune in here.” This is all building up to the April 25th launch of Skeletá via Loma Vista Recordings, which includes a throwback midnight album release event and a headlining tour promising a ‘phone-free experience.’ If you haven’t already, you can sink your teeth into the first single, “Satanized“, which landed earlier this month.
About “Satanized,” the official word is that it’s “an avalanche of infectious hooks and harmonies is buoyed by a hypnotic shuffle, as the narrator succumbs to dark forces within and without, helplessly acknowledging their own blasphemy and heresy as it inexorably consumes them.” They even warn; by the time the song’s opening lines “There is something inside me and they don’t know if there is a cure” have moved from the inner monologue of the possessed to the ears of the hapless listener, it will already be too late: You will have been “Satanized“.
Tobias Forge previously talked about Ghost‘s lyrics, telling they are not about the Devil. He said that band’s lyrics are more about being human – dealing with life, death, and all the weird stuff in between. Sure, their early stuff, like Opus Eponymous had that metal-pop sound mixed with Christian/S*tanic images that got them noticed. But Forge points out that if you’re only seeing the Devil, you’re missing the bigger picture of what Ghost is really about.
