Neurosis have partnered with the suicide prevention organization Firekeeper Alliance to release a deeply moving short film. The collaborative multimedia project blends the band’s atmospheric music with poignant visual storytelling, placing a heavy focus on the voices and experiences of youth from the Blackfeet Nation.
The cinematic endeavor was beautifully captured by talented filmmakers Jason Nix and Bobby Cochran. Through extensive travel and dedicated behind-the-scenes effort, the visionary duo managed to highlight both the stunning natural beauty of Blackfeet country and the resilient spirit of its local community, turning an ambitious concept into a powerful visual tribute.
A crucial element of the production’s authenticity was the hands-on involvement of four remarkable students from Browning Public Schools. Working directly alongside industry professionals, these young creators took on essential roles ranging from on-screen actors to key production assistants. Their genuine lived experiences were instrumental in shaping the narrative, transforming the project into a true showcase of youth leadership and communal art.
Sonically, the heavy short film is driven by two emotionally charged tracks, “We Are Torn Wide Open” and “Mirror Deep“, pulled from Neurosis‘ critically acclaimed recent comeback album, An Undying Love For A Burning World. The narrative follows four local youths as they confront a dark, malevolent entity (brought to life by actor Sim Schildt). Instead of fighting the darkness in isolation, the group discovers their power through unity. The storyline directly mirrors the Firekeeper Alliance’s foundational message: authentic human connection is our strongest defense against suicide.
Discussing the powerful partnership, Firekeeper Alliance founder and director Charlie Speicher shared the following exact statement:

This meaningful multimedia collaboration arrives on the heels of Neurosis‘ monumental return to the heavy music landscape. Back in March, the legendary act surprised the world by dropping An Undying Love For A Burning World, marking their first full-length studio release in a decade. The critically lauded record quickly earned its place as one of the year’s best metal releases and was paired with the announcement of the band’s long-awaited return to live performances.
The influential musicians are scheduled to make their first stage appearance in seven years this week at the Fire In The Mountains festival, sharing a massive bill with Sixteen Horsepower, Enslaved, Baroness, Yob, Agalloch, and The Ruins Of Beverast. Following that highly anticipated comeback set, the group has several other select performances lined up, including a massive slot at the Hellbender event in North Carolina alongside Acid Bath and the Melvins, plus a pair of hometown headline shows in San Francisco. Fans can expect even more live announcements in the coming weeks.
