Neurosis will play two separate sets at Roadburn in Tilburg in April 2027, their first European shows since 2019.
Neurosis are going back to Tilburg, and they are doing it twice in one weekend.
The band have been confirmed for Roadburn 2027, running April 15 to 18 at the 013 venue in the Dutch city, where they will perform two separate sets. What those sets will consist of has not been announced. It will be the band’s first appearance in Europe since 2019.
Guitarist and vocalist Steve Von Till framed the booking as a homecoming: “There are few places in the world that feel like home to our music the way Roadburn does; where we are in the company of kindred spirits who share our endless obsession for emotional, genre defying, independent heavy music. Roadburn is a place where the fourth wall, that imaginary boundary between artists and audience, dissolves as we all become one: a community that gathers together to honor and celebrate the healing power of intense dark music as a way to stay sane in an insane world. Now, as we have re-emerged from the darkness with the album of our lives, we can’t imagine making our return to Europe in any place other than Roadburn.”
The history behind that is real. Neurosis headlined the second night of Roadburn in 2007, and in 2009 brought their own curated “Beyond The Pale” event to the festival, filling a bill with Om, Amenra, Zeni Geva, Nadja and others.
The album Von Till refers to is An Undying Love For A Burning World, which appeared on March 20 this year with no advance warning, released through the band’s own Neurot Recordings. It is their twelfth studio album and their first since Fires Within Fires in 2016, recorded across a handful of weekends in January and February at Studio Litho in Seattle.
It also introduced a new member. Aaron Turner, of Sumac and Old Man Gloom, formerly of Isis, joined on guitar and vocals, having first started rehearsing with the band in April 2024. He had toured alongside Neurosis for years in his own bands before that.
Turner occupies the position left by co-founder Scott Kelly. The band quietly parted ways with Kelly in 2019. In 2022 he posted publicly that he had verbally and physically abused his wife and children over a period of years, and said he was retiring from music. Neurosis said at the time that they had not known about his conduct before the split, and published the numbers for the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline alongside their statement.
They returned to the stage on July 25 at Fire In The Mountains on Blackfeet Nation land at Red Eagle Campground in East Glacier Park, Montana, their first concert in seven years and Turner‘s live debut with the group. The set was presented by Firekeeper Alliance, a nonprofit working to reduce youth suicide in Indian Country, on whose board Von Till sits.
Three shows remain on the 2026 schedule before Tilburg. Four-day tickets for Roadburn 2027 are already on sale.
