Neurosis have officially expanded their highly anticipated return to the stage, announcing a fresh batch of live performances for the year. The legendary outfit made a completely unexpected comeback earlier this year, dropping their first new studio album in a full decade, An Undying Love For A Burning World.
The band had quietly parted ways with founding vocalist and guitarist Scott Kelly back in 2019, entering an indefinite hiatus. However, the reasons for his dismissal remained entirely under wraps to protect his family’s privacy until August 2022, when Scott Kelly publicly confessed to a history of severe domestic abuse. His former Neurosis bandmates immediately issued a statement condemning his horrific actions, keeping the group on total lockdown for several years to process the fallout.
That extended period of silence finally broke this year when they reemerged with Aaron Turner (SUMAC, ex-Isis) stepping in to officially replace Scott Kelly. As previously announced, this newly reconfigured lineup is scheduled to play their very first live concert since 2019 later this month at the annual Fire In The Mountains festival.
However, the revitalized group has now confirmed they will also be partaking in the newly announced Hellbender concert event in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 5. That massive heavy music bill features Neurosis sharing the stage with sludge metal icons Acid Bath, alongside the Melvins and Kylesa. Furthermore, the band has scheduled a pair of highly anticipated headlining shows in San Francisco, California, slated for October 16 and 17.
A recent press release also indicated that fans can expect even more live announcements from Neurosis in the coming weeks.
Presale access for the upcoming San Francisco dates was recently granted exclusively to members of the band’s mailing list. The general public on-sale for those specific Bay Area shows will officially launch this Friday, July 17, at 10:00 AM PDT. Tickets for the stacked Hellbender event are currently available for purchase right now.
