Motörhead Unveils ‘Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead’

A star-studded tribute album, ‘Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead’, honors Lemmy’s legacy with punk icons and a lost Damned track.

A new, star-studded tribute album is set to officially celebrate Motörhead‘s deep and enduring legacy within the world of punk rock, validating Lemmy Kilmister‘s own long-held belief that his band was punk in everything but hairstyle. The compilation, titled Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead, will feature punk rock royalty and unearth a lost collaboration with The Damned.

Scheduled for release on Halloween (October 31) via BMG Recordings, the 14-track album aims to officially cement Motörhead‘s profound influence on the punk scene. For decades, they were the one band that bridged the often-contentious divide between punks and metalheads. This connection was best summarized by the late Lemmy Kilmister himself.

“The punks loved us,” Lemmy once said. “The only reason we weren’t in that lot was because we had long hair, so obviously we must be heavy metal. That was the thinking. But a lot of kids heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band.”

The lineup for Killed By Deaf reads like a who’s-who of punk rock royalty, a testament to the deep respect Motörhead commanded within the genre. The album features contributions from iconic bands such as Rancid, Pennywise, Lagwagon, GBH, FEAR, Murphy’s Law, and the Anti-Nowhere League. Newer acts like The Bronx and Slaughterhouse also contribute, in keeping with Motörhead’s long tradition of championing up-and-coming bands.

Perhaps the most exciting inclusion for longtime fans is a previously unheard, blistering collaboration from 2002 between Motörhead and UK punk pioneers The Damned. The track is a cover of The Damned‘s own 1977 classic, “Neat Neat Neat,” a nod to the deep historical connection between the two bands, which saw Lemmy briefly join The Damned (then known as The Doomed) in the late 1970s.

Killed By Deaf is more than just another tribute album; it’s a loud, fast, and necessary historical document that validates Motörhead’s place not just as the godfathers of speed metal, but as the snarling, punk rock heart that united two of rock’s most rebellious tribes.
