Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has announced Tommyland Rides Again, a newly reimagined version of his sophomore solo record, Tommyland: The Ride. The updated project is scheduled for release on May 22 through BMG.
The refreshed edition features new mixes completed by Tommy Lee and Smiley Sean at the drummer’s personal Dolby Atmos-certified studio. The updated production utilizes modern technology to enhance the sonic quality beyond what was possible during the album’s original 2005 recording sessions. The release will also mark the album’s first appearance on digital streaming platforms, where it will be available in an immersive Dolby Atmos mix.
Discussing the new version of the record, Tommy Lee stated: “The cover art invites you to take a ride inside my twisted musical world and experience its new life after 20 years. And in Dolby Atmos.”
Coinciding with the announcement, the drummer has released the updated version of “Good Times” featuring Butch Walker. The song served as the original album’s lead single and the theme song for the reality series “Tommy Lee Goes To College.” An HD upscale of the track’s official music video is also available.
Tommyland Rides Again will include a previously unreleased bonus track titled “Stupid World“, featuring alternative rock artist and former professional skateboarder Chad Tepper. The collaboration follows Chad Tepper‘s 2023 single, “Rockstar Dreams Like Tommy Lee“. A music video for the new track will be released alongside the album.
The original Tommyland: The Ride was issued in 2005 to accompany the musician’s autobiography of the same name and his NBC television series. Produced by Tommy Lee and Scott Humphrey (known for his work with Mötley Crüe, Fuel, and Rob Zombie), the genre-spanning album featured an extensive list of guest collaborators. Contributing artists included Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, Good Charlotte‘s Joel Madden, Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, and Butch Walker.
Outside of his solo ventures, the drummer will join his Mötley Crüe bandmates for “The Return Of The Carnival Of Sins” North American tour this July. The trek commemorates the group’s 45th anniversary.
