Former The Smiths frontman Morrissey has canceled two U.S. concerts this weekend “out of an abundance of caution” following a “credible threat on his life.” The security concern comes in the direct aftermath of a man being arrested for allegedly posting a graphic and specific online death threat against the singer ahead of a festival performance in Canada last week.

The first canceled show was scheduled for last night, September 19, at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The second, scheduled for tonight, September 20, at Boston’s MGM Music Hall, has also been scrapped. The Boston venue released a statement clarifying the serious nature of the situation.

The venue’s full statement reads:

“In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, tomorrow’s engagement at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway has been cancelled.”

The threat appears to stem from an incident preceding Morrissey‘s September 12 performance at the CityFolk music festival in Ottawa, Canada. According to the Ottawa Citizen, a 26-year-old man named Noah Castellano was arrested and charged after allegedly posting a detailed death threat on the social media platform Bluesky.

The alleged post, which has since been cited in court documents, reads:

Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to s***t you many times and k*** you with a very large g*n that I own illegally.”

Castellano was later released on bail and has declined to comment on the charge.

The security threat comes during an already tumultuous period for the iconic and often controversial singer. Just last month, Morrissey made headlines by publicly offering to sell all of his business interests in The Smiths, stating that he was “burnt out by any and all connections to [his former bandmates]” and wished to “live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction.”
