Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Suffers Onstage Fall During Dublin Concert (Video)

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett took a tumble during “Seek & Destroy” at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, joking about it on Instagram as “Slip & Destroy.”

Kirk Hammett Falls Off Stage 2026

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett can add another unexpected onstage tumble to his long list of live mishaps. The slip happened during the band’s headlining show at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Friday night, June 19.

Hammett‘s fall came during a performance of “Seek & Destroy“, the 1983 cut that has remained a staple of Metallica setlists for decades. He missed a riff or two after going down, but recovered quickly and the track landed as the penultimate song of the evening. The band is set to return to the same venue tomorrow, June 21.

True to form, Hammett has had a sense of humor about the whole thing. He shared a video of the moment on his Instagram story, which Metal Stop captured (see down below), captioning it “Slip & Destroy.” The footage also shows the fall wasn’t entirely his doing: rather than tripping or stumbling, he had rested his foot on a stage cover that gave way under his weight.

Metallica officially launched the “M72” world tour in Amsterdam in April 2023 to support their eleventh studio album, 72 Seasons. Since then, the heavy metal titans have performed for an estimated four million fans worldwide.

Metallica also launched a new public health initiative involving All Within My Hands foundation, the Welsh Blood Service, England’s NHS Blood And Transplant, and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service. The collaboration represents the first time blood services across the United Kingdom have partnered with a global rock act on this scale to encourage blood and plasma donations.

The campaign urges fans to donate blood surrounding Metallica‘s upcoming U.K. stadium dates in June and July. The initiative highlights the constant necessity for blood products, which carry a shelf life of 35 days, to assist trauma victims, cancer patients, new mothers, and individuals with long-term medical conditions.

Following their remaining dates in Europe this summer, the band is scheduled to return to North America later this year for a highly anticipated residency in Las Vegas.
