Metallica continues to electrify fans on their global “M72” tour, and the band has now released professionally filmed footage of their performance of the classic track “Holier Than Thou” from their April 24, 2025, concert at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The band’s 2025 touring kicked off spectacularly on April 19 at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York. That show, featuring support from Pantera and S*icidal Tendencies, not only marked Metallica‘s first concert of the year but also shattered the venue’s attendance record, drawing over 47,500 fans. The previous record was held by The Who since 1982. According to Syracuse.com, Metallica‘s innovative in-the-round circular stage design was key to accommodating the record-breaking crowd.
The “M72” world tour is also notable for its unique “No Repeat Weekend” format in many cities, where the band plays two nights with entirely different setlists and support acts. Additionally, the 2025 leg has introduced several single-night engagements featuring the tour’s full, massive stage production in unique venues.
One such recent standout show was on May 7, 2025, at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, VA – Metallica’s first-ever visit to the home of the Virginia Tech Hokies. The concert, attended by an estimated 60,000 fervent fans, literally made the earth move. The collective energy, during the band’s iconic performance of “Enter Sandman” (a long-standing anthem for Hokies football), generated enough force to register as a minor seismic event on nearby seismographs, quickly dubbed the “Metallica Quake” online.
