Metallica launched their 2025 touring activities with a monumental, record-breaking performance at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York, on April 19. The concert, which was the band’s first of the year, saw an incredible turnout of over 47,500 fans. To commemorate the event, Metallica has released professionally filmed video of their performance of the classic track “One” from that night.
The Syracuse show, supported by Pantera and Su*cidal Tendencies, not only marked a powerful start to Metallica‘s year but also set a new attendance record for the venue, surpassing the previous high set by The Who in 1982. According to Syracuse.com, the band’s innovative circular stage design allowed for more fans to fill seats around the entire stadium, pushing attendance beyond the venue’s official capacity for Syracuse University football games.
The setlist for Metallica‘s record-breaking Syracuse concert was:
- 01. “Creeping Death“
- 02. “For Whom The Bell Tolls“
- 03. “Hit The Lights“
- 04. “King Nothing“
- 05. “Lux Æterna“
- 06. “Screaming Su*cide“
- 07. “Kirk And Rob Doodle“
- 08. “The Day That Never Comes“
- 09. “Fuel“
- 10. “Orion“
- 11. “Nothing Else Matters“
- 12. “Sad But True“
- 13. “One“
- 14. “Seek & Destroy“
- 15. “Master Of Puppets“
- 16. “Enter Sandman“
This concert is part of Metallica‘s ongoing “M72” world tour, which continues its unique “No Repeat Weekend” tradition. For these two-show stands in various cities, each night features entirely different setlists and support lineups. Upcoming examples of these special weekends include the band’s return to Tampa after 15 years on June 6 and 8 at Raymond James Stadium, and their much-anticipated Bay Area hometown performances on June 20 and 22 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
A new feature for the 2025 leg of the “M72” tour includes several single-night engagements that bring the tour’s full, massive in-the-round stage production to different venues. This included the Syracuse show and a recent concert on May 7 in Blacksburg, Virginia, at Lane Stadium – Metallica‘s first-ever visit to the home of the Virginia Tech Hokies. This particular show held special significance, marking over two decades of the Hokies using “Enter Sandman” as their iconic entrance anthem.
Support acts for Metallica‘s 2025 North American “M72” tour dates include Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Su*cidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills on various stops.
