Metallica, through their charitable foundation All Within My Hands (AWMH), have stepped up once again, donating a significant $40,000 to Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank. This contribution directly supports the organization’s critical efforts to fight the escalating hunger crisis gripping the Canadian city.

The timing is crucial, as Toronto faces unprecedented levels of food insecurity. The city declared a state of emergency regarding the issue back in December, and the 2024 Who’s Hungry report revealed that over one in ten Toronto residents now rely on food banks – double the figure from just two years prior. Recent statistics from Daily Bread further illustrate the severity, showing a staggering 903,350 client visits to their member food banks between January and March 2025, a fourfold increase compared to the 215,748 visits during the same period in 2020.

Neil Hetherington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank, expressed deep gratitude for the band’s support: “We want to wholeheartedly thank the members of Metallica for this incredibly generous donation. Right now, far too many are struggling, and these funds will help support food bank clients as the hunger crisis in our city reaches an all-time high. This gift means even more considering the band has a history of donating to the Daily Bread cause.”

Renée Richardson, Director of Philanthropy for AWMH, commented on the foundation’s motivation: “Learning that there is widespread food insecurity in Toronto reminds us just how many people are faced with making tough decisions and need assistance. We are thankful Daily Bread is there to bridge the gap for so many families.”

Metallica‘s $40,000 donation translates directly into tangible aid, enabling Daily Bread Food Bank to provide approximately 40,000 meals – one meal for every dollar donated. These vital funds allow the organization to purchase essential fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, and dairy products for distribution through its network of 205 food programs across the city.

This marks the second time Metallica has supported Daily Bread Food Bank, following a donation in November 2016 generated from proceeds of a surprise show at The Opera House. The band’s recent generous act follows their two sold-out performances at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena as part of their ongoing M72 World Tour.

Daily Bread Food Bank not only distributes food but also works towards long-term solutions to end hunger and runs programs supporting low-income individuals. They are also known for publishing the influential annual Who’s Hungry report, which tracks food insecurity trends to inform the public and drive policy change.

Established in 2017, Metallica‘s All Within My Hands foundation focuses on giving back to communities that have supported the band, particularly in areas of workforce education and the fight against hunger. To date, AWMH has raised over $20 million, distributing millions in grants globally. Impressively, 100% of donations go directly to supported organizations, as Metallica covers all administrative costs.
