Metallica has officially launched a new digital tool designed to fuel anticipation for the upcoming remastered edition of their seventh studio album, Reload. The interactive logo generator, now live at metallicalogogenerator.com, allows fans to apply the distinct 1997 aesthetic of the quadruple-platinum record to their own personal text. While the generator provides a nostalgic engagement for the “diehard” fanbase, it serves as a creative gateway to the band’s most extensive archival project of the year.
The definitive reissue of Reload is scheduled to arrive on June 26 through the band’s own label, Blackened Recordings. This project represents a meticulously curated deep dive into the 1997-1998 era of the band. The audio was remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering, with the entire technical process overseen by longtime producer Greg Fidelman.
The centerpiece of this campaign is a limited-edition, numbered deluxe box set. This expansive collection includes the remastered album on 180g double vinyl, a 7-inch single of “The Memory Remains“, and a triple 140g vinyl recording of Live At Ministry Of Sound ’97. For collectors seeking rare audio, the set boasts 15 CDs packed with unreleased demos, rough mixes, B-sides, and live material. Additionally, four DVDs provide a visual history of the era, containing TV appearances, behind-the-scenes footage, and full concert performances from Philadelphia and Seoul.
The physical package is rounded out by a 128-page hardcover book featuring unseen photography, a print by the artist Pushead, and a variety of tour memorabilia, including laminates and guitar picks. Fans who pre-order the set currently receive instant-gratification downloads of several versions of “The Memory Remains“, including a newly remastered original track and an instrumental mix.
Originally released on November 18, 1997, Reload was recorded during a highly experimental period at The Plant in Sausalito, California. The sessions featured the classic lineup of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Jason Newsted pushing their sonic identity into new territories. The album famously introduced unique musical elements, such as the hurdy-gurdy on “Low Man’s Lyric” and the legendary guest vocals of Marianne Faithfull on “The Memory Remains“.
To coincide with the launch, Metallica has initiated the #GetTheReLoadOut fan competition. This year, the contest expands beyond musical covers to invite participation from visual and performance artists. Two grand prize winners will ultimately receive a deluxe box set autographed by the band. As the June 26 release date approaches, this multi-faceted campaign ensures that the legacy of one of the band’s most stylistically diverse eras remains firmly in the spotlight.
In a new video which was premiered by Metallica last week, former bassist Jason Newsted gave fans an exclusive, detailed unboxing of the upcoming remastered limited-edition deluxe box set. You can watch it here.
