Metallica’s 2025 Tour Kicks Off: Syracuse Show Breaks Record & Setlist Revealed

Metallica kicked off the 2025 leg of their “M72” world tour on Saturday, April 19, with a single, record-breaking performance at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York. The show, supported by Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies, drew over 47,500 fans, according to syracuse.com. This attendance figure surpasses the venue’s previous all-time record of 47,319 set by The Who in 1982, making it the largest ticketed music event in Syracuse history. You can watch some of the fan filmed performances below.

The band’s innovative circular stage setup, positioned on the Syracuse University football field’s 50-yard line, allowed fans to fill the entire stadium, including thousands standing on the floor and in the “snake pit.”

Metallica‘s setlist for their record-breaking show on April 19 was as follows:

  • “Creeping Death”
  • “For Whom The Bell Tolls”
  • “Hit The Lights”
  • “King Nothing”
  • “Lux Æterna”
  • “Screaming Suicide”
  • “Kirk And Rob Doodle”
  • “The Day That Never Comes”
  • “Fuel”
  • “Orion”
  • “Nothing Else Matters”
  • “Sad But True”
  • “One”
  • “Seek & Destroy”
  • “Master Of Puppets”
  • “Enter Sandman”

The “M72” tour, which began in Amsterdam in April 2023, has already played to approximately three million fans. The tour is known for its “No Repeat Weekend” format in most cities, featuring two shows with completely different setlists and support acts each night. However, the Syracuse performance was a special one-off event, bringing the tour’s full in-the-round stage production to the college football stadium.

The 2025 North American leg of the “M72” tour will continue this tradition in several cities, including Metallica‘s first Nashville shows in five years (May 1 and 3 at Nissan Stadium) and their return to Tampa after 15 years (June 6 and 8 at Raymond James Stadium). The tour will also include the band’s debut performances at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on June 20 and 22 for their highly anticipated Bay Area hometown shows.

Adding a unique element to the 2025 itinerary are single stadium shows, like the Syracuse stop, including Metallica‘s first-ever visit to Blacksburg, Virginia, at Lane Stadium on May 7, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Notably, “Enter Sandman” has been played for over 20 years as the Hokies take the field, making this performance particularly significant.

The “M72” tour will also feature a festival headline appearance at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, on May 9 and 11.

Support for the North American leg of the tour includes Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills. The tour is produced by Live Nation and presented by inKind, a company that rewards diners at participating restaurants.

As has been the practice, a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold will be donated to local charities through Metallica‘s “All Within My Hands” foundation. Established in 2017, the foundation has raised over $15 million to support career and technical education programs, combat food insecurity, and aid disaster relief efforts.
