A daring — and dangerous — stunt at a Metallica show in Perth has ended with two fans being banned from Optus Stadium for life. On November 1, Beau William Loch Rollings, 20, and Rory Hugh Culbert, 23, caused a scene when they climbed a massive speaker tower during the band’s performance.
Reports indicate the men jumped over safety barriers and ascended the scaffolding, reaching heights estimated between 10 and 50 meters. They remained clinging to the structure for around 20 minutes before authorities intervened.
Perth Magistrate Ruth Dineen described their actions bluntly: what might have seemed “funny at the time” was, in reality, “an incredibly stupid thing to do and a good way to ruin your night out.” Both Rollings and Culbert pleaded guilty to trespassing, and police seized their phones, which contained recordings of the stunt.
Defense lawyer Rachael Gemmell called the behavior “just stupid,” but that didn’t prevent the court from handing down substantial penalties. Rollings was fined $1000 plus $308.80 in court costs, with Culbert receiving a comparable fine.
Beyond the financial repercussions, the most significant consequence for the two fans is a lifetime ban from Optus Stadium — a sobering reminder that some moments of thrill aren’t worth the long-term fallout.
