The long-swirling rumors of a Metallica residency at the Las Vegas Sphere have been all but confirmed by the band itself, as both bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Lars Ulrich have now publicly and enthusiastically endorsed the idea in separate interviews, revealing that official meetings have taken place for a potential run at the groundbreaking venue.
The most detailed confirmation came on Thursday from Robert Trujillo, who, speaking on SiriusXM‘s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, shared his creative excitement for the project and confirmed it was much more than just a rumor.
“We have talked about it, we’ve met, had meetings about it,” Trujillo stated (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). He explained that while he has yet to visit the venue himself, the potential has his imagination running wild. “Metallica‘s music is so visual. I mean, imagine a song like ‘Orion‘ and what you can do with that. The possibilities are endless. So, for me, it’s like a dream come true.”
He added that Metallica would be the first heavy rock band to headline the immersive arena, a challenge he is eager to take on. “There’s potential for a lot of visual stimulation on this,” he said. “And I can’t wait to be a part of it. So let’s see what happens.”
Trujillo‘s candid comments followed a similarly enthusiastic, if more guarded, discussion from Lars Ulrich just one day earlier on The Howard Stern Show. When asked about the residency rumors, Ulrich gave a classic non-denial denial.
“I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm. But I’m not going to deny it, because we’re all such fans of this venue,” he said, confirming that “all of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it.”
While he stressed that “nothing is etched in stone or green-lit,” his personal desire was unambiguous. “I’m not going to bulls**t you, I would f**king love to do it, let there be no question about it,” Ulrich declared.
His enthusiasm for the project stems from his own firsthand experience with the venue. He revealed that he attended U2‘s opening night performance and was “completely blown away,” calling it “the beginning of another chapter in live performances.”
While both members made it clear that no deal is finalized, they confirmed that a residency is being seriously considered for after their M72 world tour concludes in 2026. With the band’s clear passion for the project now out in the open, a Metallica residency at the Sphere has officially moved from the realm of fan speculation to one of the most highly anticipated future events in rock music.
