Days after the death of guitarist Shaun Glass, the metal community has come together to support his family, launching a crowdfunding campaign to cover his mounting medical costs and protect the future of his young son.
Glass, a defining figure in the Chicago metal scene for four decades, died on July 1, 2026, roughly a month after suffering a stroke at his Illinois home. He was 55. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, and their 13-year-old son, Maddux.
Across his long career, Glass left his fingerprints on a broad swath of bands — SOiL, Broken Hope, Sindrome, Terminal Death, Dirge Within, The Bloodline and, most recently, Repentance — helping shape a pivotal era of Midwest metal and earning respect from players and fans across several generations.
The GoFundMe campaign, set up in the wake of his passing, is aimed at easing the financial weight his family now carries while building lasting security for Maddux. According to the campaign, Glass suffered a stroke brought on by undiagnosed high blood pressure on May 31, 2026. He spent close to a month in hospital care, much of it on life support, surrounded by loved ones, before passing under hospice care. With his insurance still unresolved, the family has been left facing considerable medical and final expenses following an extended ICU stay.
