A collective of prominent rock and metal musicians gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, for the “Stargazer Alliance” memorial concert, paying tribute to the iconic vocalist Ronnie James Dio. The event, held at Bibliotek Live, coincided closely with the 15th anniversary of Dio‘s passing and served as a non-profit charity fundraiser for Cancerfonden, the Swedish Cancer Society.

The evening featured performances of many of Dio‘s classic hits from his celebrated career with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and his own band, Dio. Over 20 musicians participated in the heartfelt tribute, including renowned vocalists Jørn Lande (Masterplan), Ronnie Romero (Rainbow), and Doogie White (Rainbow), alongside instrumentalists such as Fredrik Åkesson and Per Wiberg (both of Opeth), Pontus Egberg (King Diamond), and Mia Karlsson (Crucified Barbara). Fan-filmed video from the special concert has since surfaced online and can be seen below.

Ronnie James Dio, who passed away from stomach cancer on May 16, 2010, at the age of 67, remains one of heavy metal’s most influential and revered figures. His powerful voice and charismatic stage presence left an indelible mark on generations of musicians and fans. Prior to his illness, which was diagnosed in late 2009, Dio had been actively recording and touring with Heaven & Hell, the band featuring his former Black Sabbath bandmates. His final public appearance was at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in April 2010.

Dio‘s illustrious career spanned several legendary bands. He first gained international fame with Rainbow, contributing to landmark albums such as Rising and Long Live Rock And Roll before his departure in 1978. In 1980, he famously replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, ushering in a new era for the band with the iconic albums Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules,”as well as the live album Live Evil. He would later rejoin Black Sabbath for the 1992 album Dehumanizer and again under the Heaven & Hell moniker, which released The Devil You Know in 2009.

His solo band, Dio, further solidified his legendary status, beginning with the classic 1983 debut Holy Diver and its equally renowned 1984 follow-up, The Last In Line, among ten studio albums. Beyond his own music, Dio was also the driving force behind the 1985 charity project Hear N’ Aid, which brought together numerous metal artists to record the song “Stars” to raise funds for African famine relief.
