Megadeth Unleashes New Single ‘Let There Be Shred’

Megadeth have released “Let There Be Shred,” the latest single from their upcoming and final studio album, Megadeth. The track marks the third preview of the record, following the earlier singles “Tipping Point” and “I Don’t Care,” and serves as another statement of intent from the thrash metal pioneers as they approach the end of their recording career.

The album Megadeth is scheduled to arrive on January 23, 2026, via Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with BLKIIBLK under the Frontiers Label Group. Framed as the band’s final full-length release, the record is intended to celebrate MEGADETH’s legacy while offering fans one last studio chapter from a group that helped define modern metal.

Dave Mustaine recently spoke about the reasons behind the decision to bring Megadeth’s career to an end during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk. He cited ongoing physical issues, particularly with his hands, neck, and back, explaining that years of wear and tear have made it increasingly difficult to maintain the standard he expects of himself onstage and in the studio.

Despite those challenges, Mustaine stressed that the decision was not rooted in artistic decline. The album was already completed, and he expressed pride in the final result. According to Mustaine, it was a period of honest reflection—conversations with management, bandmates, family, and himself—that ultimately clarified the path forward.

While Megadeth will be the band’s last studio album, the farewell will not be brief. Mustaine has indicated that the final tour is expected to extend for three to five years, allowing the band to properly say goodbye to fans around the world. He has also made it clear that he never wanted Megadeth to continue past the point where they could no longer deliver at full strength.

In addition to new music and touring plans, Megadeth are also preparing to bring their story to the big screen. The band recently announced Megadeth: Behind The Mask, a worldwide cinematic event set for January 22, 2026—one day before the album’s release. The film will screen in more than 1,000 theaters across over 35 countries, offering fans a shared, one-night celebration of the band’s four-decade career. The project is being released in collaboration with Trafalgar Releasing, with tickets going on sale December 11.

For fans looking for an even more immersive experience, Megadeth will also host an exclusive pre-listening party on January 17 in La Vergne, Tennessee. The premium, all-day event will feature intimate performances, master classes, photo opportunities, a catered dinner, and other special activities centered around the band’s final era.
