Dave Mustaine has revealed that Megadeth recorded at least two songs that were ultimately left off the band’s final studio album, although it remains unclear whether fans will ever get to hear all of the unreleased material.
In an interview with Metal Hammer, Mustaine discussed songs that didn’t make it onto the band’s self-titled final album, Megadeth, which was released on January 23, 2026.
According to Mustaine, two of the tracks left off the main album are “Bloodlust” and “Farewell My Love.” He also brought up another possible song, “When Robots Rule,” but wasn’t entirely confident that the title was correct.
“But I might be mixing things up,” he tells Metal Hammer. “That’s another byproduct of chemo and radiation called ‘chemo brain’, where you have a really hard time remembering things.”
Of the songs mentioned by Mustaine, “Bloodlust” has already surfaced in some form. The track was included as a Target-exclusive bonus track, meaning it was ultimately made available to fans despite not appearing on the album’s standard track listing.
The self-titled Megadeth marked the band’s 17th and final studio album and was produced by Mustaine alongside Chris Rakestraw. The record also stands as the only Megadeth studio release to feature guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari.
The album entered the Billboard 200 at number one with 73,000 equivalent units in the week ending January 29, 2026, of which 69,000 were pure sales.
It topped the charts in Australia and Austria, reached number two in Finland, Sweden and Belgium, three in the UK and Germany, four in the Netherlands, and five in Italy and New Zealand. Several of those were career-best placings.
While Megadeth has officially entered its farewell era, the band isn’t disappearing overnight. Mustaine previously told Kerrang! that the farewell tour could continue for “another three to five years,” giving fans plenty of opportunities to see the legendary thrash metal band before its final chapter comes to an end.
Megadeth will also bring its farewell celebration back to Europe next year with “Breakout: Hibernation Of The Nations,” the European chapter of the band’s multi-year global farewell headline tour.
The 24-date arena trek is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2027, in Belfast, United Kingdom, before taking Mustaine and his bandmates across the UK and mainland Europe. The tour will conclude on April 13 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Megadeth will be joined throughout the entire run by two highly respected metal acts, Black Label Society and Testament. The lineup brings together three generations of heavy metal and gives European fans another chance to see Megadeth as the band continues its final touring chapter.
Before that, Megadeth will join Iron Maiden‘s “Run For Your Lives” North American tour alongside Anthrax later this month.
