The tour announcement arrives as Megadeth prepares to enter its final chapter. Earlier this year, Dave Mustaine revealed that the band will begin its farewell cycle in 2026, accompanied by one last studio release. The self-titled album Megadeth is scheduled to land on January 23, 2026 through Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint and Frontiers Label Group’s BLKIIBLK division.

Although the upcoming album will close out Megadeth’s studio era, the road ahead is expected to continue for several years. In a recent interview with Kerrang!, Mustaine suggested the farewell tour could extend “three to five years,” hinting at a long final run before the band officially steps away.

In a recent conversation with Metal Hammer, Mustaine revealed that he envisions the final show of the band’s farewell tour happening somewhere far beyond Earth. “I hope we’ll be playing up in space,” he said. “I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool.”

Mustaine pointed to the fact that various high-profile figures — including pop icon Katy Perry, “Star Trek” legend William Shatner and billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson — have already made journeys into space. “I saw they sent up a bunch of celebrities into space and I thought ‘Well, if them, why not me?’, you know? I’m just watching how that all progresses. I know Elon Musk and Richard Branson were working on interstellar travel. I think people are going to be travelling to space a lot sooner than you think.”

When Metal Hammer pressed him on whether he was serious about performing outside Earth’s atmosphere, Mustaine doubled down. “People already travel over 40,000 feet altitude, and when you get to that kind of atmosphere you’re basically already in space. So I do think it’s going to happen. The question is, are people going to be able to inhabit the moon?”
