Thrash metal icons Megadeth have unveiled the official trailer for a major upcoming cinematic experience. The band has partnered with Trafalgar Releasing to present “Megadeth: Behind The Mask,” a worldwide theatrical event scheduled to hit over 1,000 cinemas across more than 35 countries on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
This one-night-only screening arrives just 24 hours before the release of the band’s new and final studio album, the self-titled Megadeth, which drops on January 23.
The film promises a deep dive into the history of the band, featuring a career-spanning 40-year retrospective interview with frontman Dave Mustaine. Viewers will be guided through the band’s evolution, exploring personal battles, lineup changes, and the creative breakthroughs that established them as legends of the genre.
Crucially, the event will serve as the world premiere for the new record. Audiences will hear the final album played in full for the first time, accompanied by track-by-track commentary from Mustaine explaining the inspirations behind the music.
“This listening event is going to be amazing,” Mustaine said in a statement. “I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world. I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this film to life, especially you, the fans! Now let’s fire this up… and pass the popcorn!”
Kymberli Frueh, the EVP of programming and content acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing, emphasized the significance of this release in the context of the band’s impending retirement from the studio.
“We’re thrilled to bring fans together for an exclusive first listen to Megadeth‘s final studio album — that brings their career full circle,” Frueh stated. “This isn’t just another Megadeth album: it features a bold reimagining. This cinema event is a celebration of the riffs, the intensity and the uncompromising spirit that have defined Megadeth‘s legacy. We can’t wait to share this moment with the fans who’ve been with them every step of the way.”
The cinema event kicks off a monumental year for the group. Following the album release, Megadeth will embark on new dates for their 2026 European farewell tour, which includes headline stops in cities like Vienna, Zurich, and Istanbul, as well as a high-profile support slot for Iron Maiden in Hanover on June 2.
For hardcore fans looking for an even more exclusive experience, the band is also hosting a pre-listening party on January 17, 2026, in La Vergne, Tennessee. That intimate event, priced at $950 per ticket, offers an all-day immersive experience including an acoustic set and a master class with the band.
