Megadeth have put their name to a pizza. The band have partnered with Prince St. Pizza on a limited-edition pepperoni pie to mark 40 years since the release of Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, available at the chain’s Los Angeles locations from Sep 23 to Sep 27.
The Vic’s Pepperoni is a New York-style round pizza topped with the restaurant’s own sauce, shredded mozzarella and beef pepperoni, served in a box designed for the promotion. It shares its name with Vic Rattlehead, Megadeth‘s skeletal mascot, who stands at the centre of the Peace Sells cover.
The tie-in is built around “An Evening With Megadeth” at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles tonight, Thursday, Sep 24, which has sold out. Rewards members who bought a slice or a whole pie were entered into a draw for one of five pairs of tickets. Entries closed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep 23, with no purchase required and a free entry route by email.
One of the five winners will also sit down with Dave Mustaine, Teemu Mäntysaari, James LoMenzo and Dirk Verbeuren for pizza before the event. A further 20 people will receive a promotional box signed by the band, with a Peace Sells T-shirt inside.
Lawrence Longo, chief executive of Prince St. Pizza, said: “Megadeth and Prince St. Pizza come from different worlds, but there’s a real connection in the way both brands have built loyal followings by staying authentic to who they are. For us, this partnership is about bringing those two worlds together in a way that feels genuine, unexpected and fun for the fans who have helped us become what we are today.”
Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying? was Megadeth‘s second album, released in September 1986, and went on to be certified platinum in the US. The band are currently on the road in North America supporting Iron Maiden on the “Run For Your Lives” tour, part of the farewell run that followed their final studio album, released in January.
Prince St. Pizza opened in the Nolita neighbourhood of New York in 2012 and now has 20 locations across the US and Canada.
