The decision to perform Chaos A.D. in full stems from Max Cavalera‘s deep connection to the album and his long-standing tradition of celebrating significant anniversaries of his past works. In a February 2023 interview with Radioactive MikeZ on the 96.7 KCAL-FM program “Wired In The Empire,” Cavalera reflected on these milestones.
“Those albums, to me, they’re kind of like kids,” Cavalera stated. “I like to celebrate their birthdays. I almost feel like I need to buy a cake and have a real birthday party on the day that the thing came out.” He added that the primary way they celebrate is “through the music, ’cause we’re doing all these cool tours of celebrating the music.”
Cavalera highlighted the unique significance of Chaos A.D. in the landscape of metal. “Chaos A.D. opens with [my son] Zyon‘s heartbeat,” he noted, emphasizing its personal connection. He considers it “a very special record. It’s almost like a defining moment in metal, one of those records that kind of broke the mold, how metal can be.” Cavalera explained that before Chaos A.D., the prevailing style was “super fast and aggressive,” but with this album, “we showed there’s another way to make aggressive music, that’s a little bit slower and more groove oriented, with stuff like ‘Territory‘ and ‘Slave New World‘ and ‘Refuse/Resist‘.”
