Lamb Of God fans were caught off guard this week when the band’s classic “papyrus” logo suddenly reappeared on promotional materials for their newly announced 2027 European and UK tour alongside Five Finger Death Punch and Bleed From Within. Given the heavy discussion surrounding the Virginia metal act’s recent visual rebranding, the sudden use of the old logo immediately sparked online speculation. Fans debated whether the tour poster was a simple graphic design mistake or a subtle sign that the band had quietly abandoned their new aesthetic.
It turns out that neither theory is correct. Guitarist Mark Morton took to Instagram to personally clear up the confusion and poke a little fun at the dramatic fan reactions.
“…yall funny as hell man. the most recent @lambofgod logo is literally the SEVENTH logo we’ve used… and all have remained in rotation for different things at different times…but ohhhh the despair
also….enjoy Dead Horse”
The guitarist’s comments firmly shut down the rumors, confirming that while Lamb Of God did recently introduce a new trademark, they never intended to permanently banish any of their past logos from official merchandise or promotional assets. The intense conversation regarding the band’s typography has been a popular topic ever since they revealed the cover art for their latest studio album, Into Oblivion. The artwork featured the first significant redesign of the group’s logo in 27 years, instantly dividing the fanbase.
“Such a controversy around the logo… I love it,” he remarked.
He further elaborated that the classic branding was never truly discarded, but the band simply wanted a fresh look to represent their current creative era.
“The old logo was — it’s not gone,” he explained. “It’s on every t-shirt [that fans are still wearing when they come to our shows]. It’s not like we buried it. It just felt a little dated, you know what I mean? And we feel really fresh about this record and we were just, like, ‘Let’s do something aesthetically, something graphically that feels unique for this project.’ And then everyone’s, like, ‘This cover sucks. It looks like 2000s art. The logo sucks.’ And I’m just, like, ‘Well, this is great.’ Because if the worst thing they have to say about the record is that they don’t like the logo, then we’re in great shape.”
Frontman Randy Blythe also chimed in on the typography debate earlier this year, offering a humorous and blunt critique of their long-running papyrus font.
“Well, our logo, to be perfectly honest, needed changing. It’s the papyrus font [that we used for the old Lamb of God logo]. And had we known 20-however many years ago that we would wind up looking like a falafel restaurant menu, we wouldn’t have used that. But that was before papyrus font was ubiquitous,” he said at the time.
Fans can catch Five Finger Death Punch, Lamb Of God, and Bleed From Within on the road together across Europe and the UK in early 2027.
