Florida death metal stalwarts Malevolent Creation have officially announced a significant restructuring of their lineup, confirming the return of vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller. The move marks a shift back to a five-piece configuration, notably featuring a triple-guitar assault designed to expand the band’s sonic possibilities.
The revamped roster sees Miller joining forces with bassist/vocalist Jesse Jolly, guitarist Chris Cannella, drummer Ronnie Parmer, and founding guitarist Phil Fasciana.
The band took to social media earlier today, Saturday, November 29, to confirm the news and outline their immediate plans, which include a focus on studio work rather than touring for the upcoming year.
Malevolent Creation issued the following statement regarding the reunion and future projects:
“It is official!! Malevolent Creation has returned to a 5 piece with Deron Miller returning on vocals/guitar, Jesse Jolly bass/vocals, Chris Cannella guitars, Ronnie Parmer drums and Phil Fasciana guitars. We feel this will be the best way to retain the classic MC sound and now with 3 guitars we can do things we have wanted to do but never could. 3 part guitar harmonies and playing songs that have not been played in many years.
“We’re going to start working on our 14th studio album in January and there will be no live shows in 2026 (never say never) but finishing our new album is top priority.
“Let’s welcome Deron Miller back into the band and this line up should be very intense on our new album Return Fire.”
The announcement of the fourteenth studio album, Return Fire, comes after a turbulent period for the band’s leadership. Last month, Fasciana—the group’s sole remaining original member—issued a public apology to his bandmates and crew after he was forced to drop off the band’s North American tour. Fasciana cited an adverse reaction caused by mixing alcohol with prescription medication as the reason for his inability to perform.
Furthermore, Fasciana faced a severe health scare earlier this summer while touring in France, where he was hospitalized and fell into a coma due to life-threatening bacterial pneumonia.
Malevolent Creation was originally founded in Buffalo, New York, in 1986 before relocating to the death metal hub of Fort Lauderdale. The band’s most recent studio effort, The 13th Beast, arrived in January 2019 via Century Media. That album was the only release to feature the lineup of drummer Phil Cancilla and vocalist Lee Wollenschlaeger.
The band continues to forge ahead following the loss of iconic former frontman Bret Hoffmann, who passed away in July 2018 at the age of 51 following a battle with stage 4 colon cancer.
