Machine Gun Kelly is pushing forward with his current tour schedule despite suffering a painful back injury during a recent performance in Connecticut.
The singer shared an update with fans after an ambitious crowd-surfing attempt went wrong at an afterparty show on June 6 at Mezzo Grille. The performance took place while MGK was on the road supporting his latest album, Lost Americana.
During a rendition of “FIX UR FACE,” his collaboration with Limp Bizkit vocalist Fred Durst, MGK climbed onto the roof of a nearby structure and launched himself into the audience. Video footage from the event shows the musician performing a somersault before landing in the crowd, which appeared unable to support his weight as he fell through the sea of fans. As audience members realized something had gone wrong, shouts of “Pick him up! Pick him up!” could be heard from the crowd.
In a subsequent Instagram Story, MGK revealed the extent of the injury he sustained from the stunt.
“I messed my back up really, really bad,” he wrote. “I’m having trouble even just standing or picking things up. I can’t even stand up without using my arms and my upper body strength to help support my back.”
“If I’m moving funky at any of these upcoming shows, I don’t want you to think I’m not giving it my all,” he added. “I’m just really, really f**king hurt, dude. Like, it hurts to breathe. But I’m gonna mentally heal. I know this is a big mental game, and I know that my body is pretty indestructible. So I just gotta … and nothing’s more important than the show going on. I don’t cancel anything.”
The accident comes as MGK is in the middle of an extensive run of tour dates. Since launching the trek in Florida last November, he has performed throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand before returning to North America for another series of shows.
His itinerary continues with a stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on June 12, followed by dates in Idaho, Utah, Ontario, and New York. The tour is currently scheduled to wrap up on July 1 in Ridgefield, Washington.
