Fans at Hellfest got a jaw-dropping surprise when Lorna Shore vocalist Will Ramos climbed onstage to join Bring Me The Horizon during the band’s headline set in Clisson, France. The unannounced team-up paired two of heavy music’s most distinctive voices and quickly lit up social media — a collaboration few saw coming, but one that fans instantly embraced.
The moment came as Bring Me The Horizon tore through their set on the opening night of the festival, with frontman Oli Sykes welcoming Ramos out for a performance of “Antivist“, a track from the band’s 2013 album Sempiternal. The song has long featured a tradition where Sykes pulls a member of the crowd up to scream a section, and at first the band played it off as though Ramos were just another fan picked from the audience.
“Be nice to him, even if he’s s**t, alright,” Sykes told the crowd, joking at Ramos‘ expense.
Ramos leaned into the bit before letting loose.
“I might f**k this one up, so I’m gonna need as much help as I can get,” he said. “Y’all gonna help me or what? Alright, let’s f**k it up then, middle fingers in the sky. I wanna see that s**t. Sing that s**t with me.”
What followed was a ferocious vocal performance that proved why Ramos has become one of the most talked-about extreme vocalists in the scene. A longtime Bring Me The Horizon fan, he has previously posted covers of the band’s material online, making the on-stage union feel like a long time coming.
The appearance marked a notable chapter for Bring Me The Horizon, who were headlining Hellfest for the first time after earlier appearances at the French festival over the years. The Sheffield band brought the guest spot out mid-set, and the livestreamed performance ensured the Ramos cameo spread far beyond Clisson within hours.
The Hellfest highlight lands during what is shaping up to be one of the biggest years of the band’s career. This summer, Bring Me The Horizon are teaming up with the Outbreak festival for a two-day event celebrating the 20th anniversary of their hardcore and emo-revival debut album, Count Your Blessings, with performances from Static Dress, Heriot and more.
On top of that, the band is putting out a full re-recording of Count Your Blessings, revisiting the heavy record that first set their course. Across their career, Bring Me The Horizon have moved through a wide range of subgenres and continually pushed at the edges of alternative music, yet they have always managed to hold onto their core audience — a feat that is no small achievement in itself.
