Swedish black metal stalwarts Lord Belial are poised to unleash their tenth studio album, the ominously titled Unholy Trinity, on June 27, 2025, via Hammerheart Records. Coinciding with the announcement, the band has premiered “The Wh*re,” the powerful lead single from the forthcoming record, described as a ceremonial offering that underscores their unwavering commitment to the ancient black metal arts.
“The Wh*re” is presented as both a warning and an invitation into Lord Belial‘s dark sonic world. The band offered insight into the track’s inspiration: “‘The Wh*re’ conjures an apocalyptic vision rooted in Revelation, where Babylon rises as a symbol of spiritual decay, lust, and power. Fueled by searing riffs and infernal intensity, the track unleashes a harrowing portrait of the scarlet beast and the dominion of the Mother of Harlots. It stands as a dark pillar of Unholy Trinity, merging biblical imagery with Lord Belial’s signature blackened ferocity.”
The upcoming album, Unholy Trinity, is billed as a fierce continuation of Lord Belial‘s legacy, aiming to push the boundaries of extreme music. It follows their critically acclaimed 2022 comeback album, Rapture. While Rapture reasserted the band’s dominance, Unholy Trinity is said to venture into even darker and more extreme territories, yet remains deeply rooted in the band’s signature melodic sensibility. The album was once again produced by the legendary Andy LaRocque (King Diamond, Death) at Sonic Train Studios, promising a relentless assault that is described as both “savage and sophisticated — a masterclass in modern black metal.”
Formed in 1992, Lord Belial has been a cornerstone of the Scandinavian black metal scene for over three decades. They are renowned for blending raw aggression with haunting melodies and a potent atmosphere. Their revered discography includes cult classics such as their 1995 debut Kiss the Goat, Enter the Moonlight Gate, Unholy Crusade, and Nocturnal Beast. Often compared to genre-defining acts like Dissection, Lord Belial has cemented its place among the elite of extreme metal.
