Swedish heavy metal stalwarts Lion’s Share have officially ended a nearly two-decade album drought. The band announced today that their long-awaited new full-length studio effort, titled Inferno, is scheduled for release on March 27, 2026, via Metalville Records.

While the group has kept their name alive in recent years through a steady stream of standalone digital singles, Inferno marks their first proper studio album since 2009’s acclaimed Dark Hours. For founding guitarist Lars Chriss, the new record represents a deliberate and heavy return to form.

“For us, Inferno is more than just a new album — it’s a statement,” Chriss said in a press release. “We’ve spent years writing, refining, and pushing ourselves harder than ever. The goal was simple: make the strongest, heaviest, and most focused Lion’s Share record of our career. I honestly feel we’ve achieved that. This is the album where everything fell into place.”

Vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson, who has fronted the band since 2007, echoed his bandmate’s sentiment, suggesting that the long gap between records has only intensified their creative output.

“Taking 17 years between albums wasn’t the plan — but it allowed us to come back with fire in our veins,” Johansson stated. “We’ve never sounded tighter, and we can’t wait to bring these songs to the stage. This album has the attitude, the hooks, the power… everything that made us fall in love with heavy metal in the first place. We’re incredibly proud of Inferno.”

Since transitioning to a duo format in 2017, Chriss and Johansson have anchored the project, recruiting a circle of trusted musicians to round out the sound. The recording lineup for Inferno features bass contributions from Andy Loos, keyboards from original member Kay Backlund and Anuviel, and drums by Fredrik Johansson.

For the upcoming touring cycle, the band will feature a slightly modified lineup, with Magnus Ulfstedt taking over duties behind the kit.

Formed in Sundsvall in 1987, Lion’s Share built a reputation as one of Sweden’s most reliable melodic metal acts. Over the decades, they have toured with genre giants like Motörhead, Dio, and Saxon, while collaborating with members of Megadeth, Kiss, and King Diamond on various projects.
