Eric Greif — who was best known as Death manager and was in charge of Perseverance Holdings Ltd. (all things related to the Intellectual Property of Chuck Schuldiner – DEATH, MANTAS and CONTROL DENIED) has passed away. He was 59.
Greif was also known an entertainment lawyer representing bands like Obituary, Massacre and Anciients, as well as with Mötley Crüe.
News of Greif‘s passing comes from Pull the Plug Patches, who closely worked with him on latest Death patches.
Statement from Pull the Plug Patches reads (via Metal Addicts): “Absolutely shocked to learn of Eric Greif’s passing. As many of you know, Eric was Chuck Schuldiner’s longtime manger, lawyer, and most importantly his very good friend. It is Eric who was entrusted to keep Chuck’s memory and music alive through Perseverance Holdings Ltd., and it is a role he evidently did exceptionally well, as Death (Official) is as revered today as they ever were in the past.
“In recent months I had corresponded frequently with Eric as we negotiated a deal for Pull The Plug Patches to release a series of exclusive patches, backpatches and pins over the next 3 years. I’m honoured that he placed his trust in us, enabling what is the realization of a dream for us.
“Although he often spoke about his failing health, I always felt that he would pull through since his spirit and resolve seemed so firm. He was always very gracious and supportive of what we were trying to achieve with our company. In particular, he genuinely appreciated that we approached him for approval as too many times over the past 20 years people have simply helped themselves to Death’s intellectual property, despite the financial difficulties that Chuck’s family faced following his passing.
“This one hits hard. Eric was a stand up guy. Our very sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
