Left To Die Dedicate ‘Zombie Ritual’ To Chuck Schuldiner And Fallen Death Members In Kraków (Video)

Left To Die dedicated “Zombie Ritual” to Chuck Schuldiner, Sean Reinert, Scott Clendenin and Shaun Glass at their August 4 Kraków concert.

Matt Harvey stopped before the last song of Left To Die‘s main set in Kraków on August 4 and read out a list of names.

Footage of the concert at Zaścianek has been posted by the “Considered Dead” blog’s YouTube channel.

”This next one is our last one for the evening, and it’s for [late Death mastermind] Chuck [Schuldiner] and it’s for [late Death drummer] Sean Reinert, it’s for [Chicago metal legend] Shaun Glass, it’s for [late Death bassist] Scott Clendenin, and all those who didn’t make it here with us tonight, man. Check it out, Harvey told the crowd.

The band then played “Zombie Ritual“, a Scream Bloody Gore track, and one of the songs guitarist Rick Rozz was not present to record when Death made that album in 1986.

Chuck Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001 at 34, following treatment for pontine glioma, a rare brain tumour.

Sean Reinert, who drummed on 1991’s Human, was found unresponsive at his home in California on January 24, 2020. He was 48.

Scott Clendenin, bassist on 1998’s The Sound Of Perseverance, died in March 2015 at 47 after several years of health problems.

Shaun Glass died on July 1, 2026, a month after suffering a stroke at his home in Illinois. Across four decades he played with Soil, Broken Hope, Sindrome, Terminal Death, Dirge Within, The Bloodline and, most recently, Repentance. He is survived by his wife Michelle and their 13-year-old son Maddux.

Terry Butler was absent for the first five dates of the band’s summer European run. Jörgen Sandström of Grave and Entombed covered bass in his place.

Left To Die pairs Butler, also formerly of Massacre, currently in Obituary, with Rozz, alongside Gruesome founders Harvey of Exhumed and drummer Gus Rios, formerly of Malevolent Creation.

The band came together in 2022 after two tribute concerts marking twenty years since Schuldiner‘s death, and built its live set around Leprosy performed in full plus material from Scream Bloody Gore.

Initium Mortis, the band’s debut full-length, arrived July 17 through Relapse Records. Rather than new compositions, it gives studio treatment to songs from the Mantas and early Death demo tapes, material that circulated for decades only as degraded copies.

Mantas was the band Schuldiner started in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1983 with Rozz on guitar and Kam Lee on vocals and drums. The name changed to Death the following year.

Alongside California’s Possessed, they are routinely credited as the point where death metal became a distinct form. The Florida scene that grew around them gained international attention through the late 1980s.

Born Human: The Life And Music Of Death’s Chuck Schuldiner“, the authorised biography, was published in November 2025 through Decibel Books.

Written by David E. Gehlke, whose previous books include “The Scott Burns Sessions: A Life In Death Metal 1987-1997” and “Turned Inside Out: The Official Story Of Obituary“, it draws on interviews and contributions from people who knew Schuldiner, with cover art by Ed Repka and previously unpublished photographs.
