Richmond, Virginia metal veterans Lamb Of God made a special appearance at CarMax Park on Thursday, June 4, taking the field during the Richmond Flying Squirrels‘ game against the Erie SeaWolves.
The hometown heroes arrived at the newly opened stadium to kick off its inaugural “Heavy Metal Night“. Setting the tone for the evening, guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler delivered a live performance of the national anthem before the band collectively tossed out the ceremonial first pitch.
During the game, the group hosted a meet-and-greet session at The Backstop, handing out a limited-edition commemorative poster to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Later in the evening, frontman Randy Blythe and drummer Art Cruz stepped up to the microphone during the seventh-inning stretch to lead the stadium crowd in a singalong of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame“.
Fan-shot footage of the hometown takeover, uploaded to YouTube by the “Dennis Justus” channel, captured the crossover between the local heavy metal and baseball communities.
Originally formed in Richmond in the mid-1990s, Lamb Of God issued their debut full-length in 2000. Over their multi-decade career, the band has earned five Grammy Award nominations and achieved RIAA gold status for their landmark albums Ashes Of The Wake and Sacrament.
The group is currently supporting their highly praised latest studio album, Into Oblivion, which arrived in March 2026.
Into Oblivion was produced and mixed by longtime studio collaborator Josh Wilbur. The recording process was split across several locations directly tied to the band’s history. Drum tracking took place in Richmond, Virginia, while guitar and bass parts were recorded at Mark Morton‘s personal home studio. Lead vocalist Randy Blythe tracked his parts at the legendary Total Access studio in Redondo Beach, California, a facility recognized for producing foundational punk albums by bands such as Black Flag, Hüsker Dü, and Descendents.
