Korn have returned with new music in a surprise move, unveiling a brand new track titled “Reward The Scars” as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Diablo IV: Lord Of Hatred expansion pack. The song is already available to stream, while the expansion itself is set for release on April 28 across multiple gaming platforms.
The release arrives as the band’s first new material since their 2022 studio album Requiem. That record was produced by Chris Collier alongside the band and went on to deliver strong commercial results, including a No. 1 debut on Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart, as well as top placements on the Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts. It also entered the all-format Billboard 200 at No. 14.
Beyond the music itself, Korn’s recent years have also been defined by lineup changes and shifting activity. Bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu stepped away from touring in 2021, citing personal reasons and a need to address what he described as “bad habits.” While he has not performed live with the band since, he did contribute bass to Requiem. On the road, his role has been filled by Suicidal Tendencies bassist Roberto “Ra” Díaz.
Fieldy has since opened up about his time away from the band and the circumstances surrounding his decision. Speaking on the Shady Characters podcast alongside former L.A.P.D. bandmate Richard Morrill, he pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a major turning point.
“COVID happened. That’s it. I’m like, ‘I’m not going out there.’ That’s what happened, ’cause it was new. Now. I’m like… The whole time – I mean, I didn’t get vaccinated or anything – but when you reflect on it, that’s what happened,” he explained. “They’re like, ‘We’re going to Florida and all this.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get vaccinated.’ I’m not going. I go, ‘People, this is weird right now.’ But I mean that’s kind of what happened. But it gave me time to sit, and once you sit, you can reflect and you’re like, you’re kind of just waiting you know to what’s next, ’cause I don’t know what the rest of this day is going to bring. I’m just on fire for whatever, whatever is ready.”
When asked directly if his departure from Korn is permanent, Fieldy offered an ambiguous update on his status, leaving the door open for a potential reunion. This aligns with his recent public hangout with Korn drummer Ray Luzier.
“I’m retired from Korn today, but we’ll see what the day brings tomorrow,” he stated.
