Kiss’ Gene Simmons Claps Back At Fans Accusing Him Of Greed: ‘Get Out Of Your Loser’s Mentality’

Recently, Kiss bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons faced criticism regarding his wealth on social media.

Gene Simmons Wealth 2025

Kiss is famous not just for their heavy music and iconic makeup, but for their relentless marketing and merchandising empire. Recently, bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons faced criticism regarding his wealth on social media, prompting him to deliver some characteristically blunt responses to his detractors.

As Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Kiss has never shied away from capitalizing on their brand. Over the decades, they have slapped their logo on everything from empty bags of “air guitar strings” to the famous Kiss Kasket—the same coffin in which late Pantera guitar legend “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was laid to rest. Even after completing their final retirement tour and selling their catalog and likenesses for the creation of digital avatars, an unmasked iteration of KISS has continued to perform live.

On April 4, Gene Simmons posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) promoting the upcoming disaster movie “Deep Water,” directed by Renny Harlin. In the brief clip, the rocker mentioned he planned to show up unannounced at select screenings to watch the film alongside fans. Perceiving this video as a paid promotion, several users took the opportunity to confront the musician, accusing him of hoarding wealth.

Gene did not hold back, jumping into an impromptu Q&A to aggressively defend his financial mindset.

When one user asked, “Don’t you have ENOUGH money yet Gene???”, the bassist quickly fired back:

“This is a loser’s question. Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk all get up every day and try to make more. No matter how much they’ve got. Get out of your losers’s mentality, and try to win in life, every day.”

Another fan questioned the rocker’s inability to walk away from the spotlight, asking, “Why can’t people just stop, retire and have some dignity…”

Gene Simmons simply replied: “Retire? And do what?”

The conversation escalated when another user challenged his core philosophy, asking: “Why does making more equal to winning in life?”

“Because by earning more, you create more jobs, by spending more money, which provides other people with being able to support their families. Without earning more, you can’t even give to charity, much less support your family,” Simmons explained.

The exchanges grew increasingly hostile as critics continued to press the issue. One detractor commented: “Old men facing impending death like Gene Simmons hoard wealth and relate with other old men that do the same as compensation. You can’t take it with you Gene.”

Refusing to back down, the frontman responded: “…You’re a jealous loser. You don’t understand, sadly. That was this do some research and find out why the richest and most powerful people on the planet, continue to work hard to try to make more, so they can give more and create more.”

Finally, another user launched a scathing attack on his legacy: “So youre a loser because all you love is money? Wow, no wonder you sold your soul for money and you’ll rot away as a band that held on so long that your reputation will be nothing for the rest of human history.”

Gene Simmons delivered a final, numerical breakdown of his contributions to society to shut down the argument:

Timmy, i’ve paid more than $100 million in taxes. I’ve created thousands of jobs, which enabled thousands of people to feed their families. I’ve contributed millions to wounded warriors, pediatric aids and support 1400 African children. And what have you accomplished in life?”
