Peter Criss, the original drummer and a co-founder of the rock band Kiss, was honored with the Legacy Award on Friday, April 25th. The award was presented by the Raven Drum Foundation during a special event held at The Cutting Room in New York City.

The evening served as a fundraiser to support first responders and veterans, focusing on mental health and resiliency programs. Organized by the Raven Drum Foundation in collaboration with Friends Of Firefighters and First Responder Resiliency Inc., the event aimed to raise funds for proactive counseling and holistic care initiatives designed to address post-traumatic stress within these communities.

The Raven Drum Foundation, established in 2001 by Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen and his wife, musician and healing arts educator Lauren Monroe, spearheaded the event. The foundation works to aid the healing of first responders and veterans struggling with PTSD through integrated workshops combining music, drumming, and evidence-based wellness techniques.

The award presentation to Criss, known to Kiss fans as the “Catman,” highlighted his humanitarian efforts. The night also featured performances by an impressive all-star lineup. Joining Criss, Allen, and Monroe on stage were members of The Joe Bouchard Band including Albert Bouchard (formerly of Blue Öyster Cult), Mickey Curry (known for work with Hall & Oates and Bryan Adams), Corky Laing of Mountain, R&B drumming legend Bernard Purdie, Christine Olhman (of “Saturday Night Live” band fame), Shawn Pelton, Carlton Jumel Smith, Ricky Byrd (formerly of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts), Devon Maria (who has worked with Debbie Gibson), and Kasim Sulton (known for his work with Joan Jett and Todd Rundgren). The event was emceed by Maria Milito of Q104.3 and musical director Billy Amendola. A silent auction featuring rock memorabilia also contributed to the fundraising efforts.

In addition to his recognition for humanitarian work, Criss is preparing for a musical comeback. The 79-year-old artist is set to release a new solo rock album this fall, co-produced with Barry Pointer who worked with Ozzy OsbourneMarilyn Manson, and John 5, among others. The album reportedly features notable guest musicians, including Billy Sheehan and Matthew Montgomery (also known as Piggy D.) on bass, John 5 and Mike McLaughlin on guitar, and Paul Shaffer on piano.

Criss, who provided lead vocals on iconic Kiss tracks like “Beth” and “Hard Luck Woman,” last released a solo album, One For All, in 2007.
