King Diamond‘s current European tour has experienced further disruptions, with the cancellation of additional immediate live shows. This follows two previous weekend cancellations, all attributed to illness affecting the band’s 69-year-old namesake frontman. King Diamond himself issued a statement yesterday, July 7th, addressing the situation.
“Hello everyone
King Diamond here. As you may know by now, I was diagnosed with Strep Throat this past Saturday, and told to rest a certain amount of Days. As I have had experience with Strep Throat before, I believe that with the medicine prescribed by the doctor and my own knowledge, I can be back singing before the estimated day. By cutting my recuperation from suggested 14 days to 6, which I feel might work in this case, we could be back performing this Thursday, July 10 in Athens, Greece.
Send me a Devil’s prayer or two and I shall do my utmost for this to happen.
Stay Heavy,– King Diamond“
Due to King Diamond‘s current health situation, this week’s performances in Bucharest and Sofia have been canceled. However, the band anticipates returning to the stage this Thursday, July 10th, for the Rockwave Festival in Athens, Greece, provided recovery proceeds as planned.
The updated tour schedule is as follows:
- July 10: Athens, GRE – Rockwave Festival
- July 13: Istanbul, TUR – Zorlu Main Stage
- July 31: Bergen, NOR – Beyond The Gates
- August 02: Wacken, GER – Wacken Open Air
- August 08: Helsinki, FIN – Hellsinki Metal Festival
Fans awaiting new music from the legendary performer have received a promising update regarding the band’s highly anticipated horror trilogy, the first installment of which is titled Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920. In a recent interview with the Heavy Demons radio show, guitarist Andy La Rocque shed light on the album’s progress and the band’s unique, distributed songwriting and recording methodology.
La Rocque confirmed that recording for the new material began before King Diamond’s last U.S. tour and remains an ongoing process. “We started to record things before the last U.S. tour. And we still have a lot of things to record, so we’re working on that too, and we’re gonna continue with that as soon as the European tour is over. So, we’ve been really busy with everything,” he explained.
