Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach says the band isn’t ruling out a shift away from full-length albums, admitting he’s open to focusing on singles if that’s what the changing music landscape demands. The metalcore veteran shared his thinking in a new radio interview, framing the format question as far less important than the quality of the music itself.
Speaking with Baby Huey of the “107.7 The Bone” radio station, Leach talked about whether he and his bandmates still enjoy putting out traditional albums or whether they might start leaning toward singles in the future.
“I think you have to move with the times. I think the algorithm that digital media is in is now favoring singles. It’s now favoring smaller amounts of music. But I think if you have a vision as a band that you wanna just be the kind of band that puts out an album and that’s that, go for it. Stick to your guns. But I think we’re all really open to whatever works, whatever makes sense. So I wouldn’t be surprised if, moving forward, we did change up the format. But the important thing is, does the music speak for itself? Do the lyrics hit? Is it good quality? Is it something that we’re proud of? I think that’s more important, these days, than what type of a format it is, whether it’s an EP or an LP or a single. If it’s good, it’s good. Who cares? That’s how I feel,” he explained (as transcribed by Blabbermouth).
The comments come as Killswitch Engage continue to ride the momentum of their latest album, This Consequence, which arrived in February 2025 via Metal Blade Records. The record marked the band’s ninth full-length overall and the sixth featuring Leach, who rejoined the group in 2012.
This Consequence landed alongside a hugely successful winter and spring 2025 tour, delivered a Top 10 single in “I Believe”, and earned the band cover features in Revolver and Outburn. Fans got their first taste of the record with the pulverizing “Forever Aligned“, quickly followed by “I Believe“, with the group more recently sharing videos for “Collusion” and “Aftermath“.
Whatever the band decides about future formats, their presence on the road remains as strong as ever. Killswitch Engage recently launched a U.S. tour with support from Machine Head, Iron Reagan and Havok. That run follows the massive “Summer Of Loud” trek the band completed in the summer of 2025, where they co-headlined alongside Beartooth, I Prevail and Parkway Drive.
For now, Leach seems content to let the music guide the band’s next move, rather than locking themselves into any one way of releasing it.
