Former Megadeth guitarists Kiko Loureiro and Marty Friedman have kicked off a joint tour of Brazil, with the first performance taking place on Friday, May 30, at Santo Rock Bar in Santo André, São Paulo. The unique collaboration saw the two celebrated musicians share a stage to perform iconic tracks from their respective careers with Megadeth, Loureiro‘s former band Angra, and their solo instrumental work.
The guitarists were backed by a band that included Felipe Andreoli on bass, Bruno Valverde on drums, and Alírio Netto on vocals. The extensive setlist celebrated the catalogs of both headliners, culminating in several songs where Loureiro and Friedman performed together.

The joint tour is particularly interesting given that Loureiro, upon his departure from Megadeth in September 2023, revealed that he had recommended Friedman as his own replacement.
“Actually, I even mentioned to management and Dave [Mustaine] that I thought bringing Marty Friedman back would be amazing,” Kiko told Guitar World magazine last year. “I have no idea if they’re talking about it or talking to him, but I did say that. But again, I have no idea beyond that, and I don’t want to make anything more complicated.”
While Friedman did make several guest appearances with Megadeth in 2023 at Budokan and Wacken Open Air, the permanent guitar position ultimately went to Finnish guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari in November 2023.
