Kid Rock’s appearance at the Turning Point USA-backed “All-American Halftime Show” on February 8 quickly turned into a lightning rod online — and not just because of the politics surrounding it.
Staged as counterprogramming to Super Bowl LX in San Diego, the livestreamed event was promoted as a celebration of “faith, family & freedom.” While Bad Bunny headlined the official halftime show at the big game — a choice that drew criticism from several conservative voices, including figures within the current U.S. administration — Turning Point USA assembled its own lineup featuring Kid Rock at the top of the bill, alongside Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.
But it was Rock’s performance that dominated the post-show conversation.
Taking on an abbreviated version of his 1999 hit “Bawitdaba” and later covering Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t,” the rap-rock/country star appeared — at least to many viewers — to lean heavily on backing tracks. Almost immediately, social media lit up with questions about whether the vocals were live.
“Was Kid Rock doing a really bad job of lip syncing or is my audio out of sync?” one X user wrote during the stream. Another asked, “Is this a pre-recorded event? Kid Rock is way off on the lip sync.”
Others piled on. “I’m watching the Turning Point USA halftime show. I’m not a country music fan at all and so far the only one I know is Kid Rock. Is anyone else watching? Just curious, was Kid lip syncing?” one viewer posted. Meanwhile, an account named Blue Georgia commented, “Kid Rock’s audio was out of sync in the TPUSA halftime show stream LMAOOO! What a complete disaster,” drawing thousands of likes.
Footage from previous live appearances at Republican-backed events also resurfaced online, further amplifying scrutiny.
