Kelly Osbourne Thanks Birmingham Fans After Accepting Award On Behalf Of Ozzy Osbourne

The late Ozzy Osbourne has been honored with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award from the Birmingham Awards. His daughter, Kelly Osbourne, accepted the award on his behalf on Friday, October 17, and later shared a moving tribute on social media, stating that “being a Brummy meant more to him than anything.”

The award is a poignant local honor for the global rock icon, coming just three months after his passing in July. In her message to the fans and the city, Kelly expressed her profound gratitude and shared what the recognition from his hometown would have meant to her father.

She wrote in an Instagram post:

“Last night I had the honor of accepting my father’s life time achievement award on his behalf at the @birminghamawards. I can’t thank everyone enough for their love and support. I know that my dad was shining down on us from heaven with pride because being a #Brummy meant more to him than anything. He loved the city and he loved the people. This honor would have meant the world to him. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. #birminghamforever.”

The timing of the award is particularly significant, as it follows Ozzy Osbournes final, triumphant performance, which took place in Birmingham on July 5. That historic concert, titled “Back To The Beginning,” was a monumental farewell that saw him reunite on stage with the original lineup of Black Sabbath.

Reflecting on that final show, his son Jack Osbourne recently described it as a profoundly moving experience. “In hindsight, it kind of was a living wake, if you think about it. He got to say goodbye to everyone,” Jack said.

In his own posthumously released memoir, “Last Rites“, Ozzy himself wrote about the powerful emotions of that night. “Someone said in the papers it was like I was attending my own wake, which would be a very metal thing to do. But it didn’t feel like a funeral. It felt like a celebration,” he wrote. “There was so much love in that stadium, coming at me in waves.”

The Birmingham Lifetime Achievement Award is the latest in a series of powerful posthumous tributes to the Prince of Darkness, which also include two new documentaries, “Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home” on the BBC and “Ozzy: No Escape From Now” on Paramount+.
