Kelly Osbourne has broken her personal silence on the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, with a deeply personal and heartbreaking tribute that perfectly encapsulates their unique, shared history. Two days after the rock icon’s passing at age 76, Kelly shared a lyric from “Changes,” the Black Sabbath ballad she famously re-recorded as a chart-topping duet with her father in 2003.

On her Instagram Stories on Thursday, July 24, the 40-year-old posted the simple, poignant words: “I feel unhappy I am so sad, I lost the best friend I ever had.”

The line is immediately recognizable to fans as a lyric from their hit 2003 duet. The song, originally a 1972 Black Sabbath track, was reimagined with revised lyrics to reflect the powerful bond between the father and daughter. Their version was a massive success, soaring to No. 1 on the UK singles chart and making them only the second father-daughter pair in history to achieve the feat, following Frank and Nancy Sinatra.

The choice of “Changes” as her first personal statement is a testament to a close relationship that was celebrated both in the privacy of their family and on the world’s biggest stages. Millions of fans were first introduced to their quirky and loving dynamic on the Emmy-winning MTV reality series, The Osbournes, which premiered in 2002.

That bond remained a cornerstone of their lives right to the very end. Just weeks before his passing, Ozzy was able to witness one of his daughter’s biggest moments when her now-fiancé, Sid Wilson, proposed to her backstage at Ozzy‘s final concert in Birmingham on July 5.

Kelly was a signatory on the official family statement released on Tuesday, which announced that her father had passed away peacefully, “surrounded by love.” Her choice to use the lyrics from “Changes” now serves as a perfect and deeply personal tribute to the man she shared a stage and a life with, and whom she considered her “best friend.”
