The Swedish dark progressive rock masters Katatonia have now made their evocative cover of the KISS classic “A World Without Heroes” available on all digital platforms. The track was previously only available as an exclusive bonus song on the mediabook edition of their latest studio album, Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, which was released in June via Napalm Records.
The digital single also includes a second bonus track, the “Wind of No Change – Karin Park Remix.” The release of the two songs coincides with the band’s extensive EU/UK headlining tour, which just kicked off in Finland with support from Evergrey and Klogr.
While honoring the 1981 original, Katatonia transforms the rock ballad into a signature atmospheric soundscape, defined by the unmistakably emotive vocals of frontman Jonas Renkse. The band’s connection to the song, as Renkse explains, is a personal one.
“A final single from the Nightmares… session, a cover of KISS’ ’A World Without Heroes’ which is one of the songs we usually listen to in the dressing room before going on stage,” Renkse said. “For us, it now also serves as a memory of Ace Frehley’s legacy. Nico’s rendition of his solo is nothing short of amazing! Also, this release includes Karin Park’s outstanding remix of ’Wind of No Change’. Enjoy, and come see us in Europe this fall/winter!”
The new single offers fans a chance to hear Katatonia‘s unique interpretation of the classic rock track as the band brings their immersive live experience to cities across Europe and the UK this fall.
