Speaking with Dawn Osborne of “TotalRock,” former Mötley Crüe vocalist and current The Dead Daisies frontman John Corabi discussed the origins of his long-standing nickname “Crabby.” Speaking candidly, Corabi reflected on how the moniker came into use and how it followed him throughout different stages of his career.

He said: “Somebody was just asking me — literally I still get asked, they’re, like, ‘Why does everybody call you ‘Crabby‘?’ And I go, ‘Well, it’s not what you think.’ I have Mick Mars to thank for that, because Mick used to go, ‘Hey, Corabi.’ And it somehow went from ‘Hey, Corabi‘ to ‘Hey, Corab‘ to ‘Crab‘. And that was it. I went from Corabi to Crab, and I’ve just been Crabby ever since. But that’s a Mick Mars nickname, and it just stuck.”

John Corabi is set to release his debut full-length solo album, New Day, on April 24 via Frontiers Music Srl. The record represents his first complete solo collection of original material and marks a significant personal milestone in his decades-long career.

Recorded in Nashville during the summer of 2025, New Day was produced by multi-platinum songwriter and producer Marti Frederiksen, whose résumé includes work with Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, and Buckcherry. The album draws heavily from classic 1970s rock while incorporating soul and blues influences, resulting in a sound that is both reflective and contemporary.

The album also incorporates previously released singles “Così Bella (So Beautiful)” from 2021 and “Your Own Worst Enemy” from 2022, now contextualized within a broader body of work. Across the tracklist, Corabi showcases his signature vocal power, emotionally driven lyrics, and seasoned songwriting approach.

  2. “That Memory”
  3. “Faith, Hope And Love”
