With the support of Joey Jordison’s family, the band Vimic is preparing to release their debut album, Open Your Omen, after a long legal battle to secure the rights to the music. The independent release of the long-awaited album was made possible by a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $100,000.
In anticipation of the album’s release, Vimic has put out their first new single since 2017, titled “In Your Shadow.” The song, which was written by Jordison, lead vocalist Kalen Chase, and former member Kris Norris, was originally conceived as a tribute to the late Peter Steele of Type O Negative. Now, after the passing of both Jordison and producer Kato Khandwala, the song has taken on a new, more profound meaning as a tribute to them. You can listen to the new single down below.
Kalen Chase commented on the inspiration for the track, noting Jordison’s admiration for Steele. “Joey was a big fan of Peter Steele and he actually introduced me to him in 2007,” Chase said. He added that the song’s different style made it a fresh addition to the album’s material. “It’s a departure from the more extreme stuff we were doing for the record, which made it feel fresh. Playing it live was special because everybody had somebody specific in mind they were playing for. Now we’re playing it for Joey.“
To celebrate the release of Open Your Omen and honor the late drummer, Vimic will be performing a special reunion show at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on October 3. The event, presented by the Joey Jordison Charitable Fund, will feature Wednesday 13—a former bandmate of Jordison’s in Murderdolls—as the supporting act. In a unique tribute, a number of guest drummers will perform behind Jordison’s iconic drum kit throughout the night.
